About BlendEd
BlendEd is a collaboration project between The Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft (BK) and the Institute for Housing and Urban Studies (IHS) at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. BlendEd is the starting point for new interdisciplinary classes, modules and courses in collaboration with the two institutions.
It seeks to foster ongoing and find new joined educational initiatives between the two institutions, following the principles of Blended Learning. The content of the BlendEd Platform covers a variety of topics on urban development from both social science and design/planning perspectives.
What is Blended Learning?
Blended Learning combines online education teaching materials and tools with traditional face-to-face classroom training methods.
Online components offer students to study remotely and the ability to control their learning pace. E-learning elements can include video material, readings, quizzes, online discussions, or games among others. Therefore, students are not simply watching or listening to content but are also ‘doing’ and interacting.
The face-to-face (f2f) teaching moments serve as complementary components which help to deepen the understanding of the gained knowledge that was acquired remotely. F2f classes may take the form of role-plays, discussions, feedback moments, and flipped classroom settings just to name a few.
Complementary expertise
The Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft (BK) and the Institute for Housing and Urban Studies (IHS) at Erasmus University (EUR) have both renowned and distinctive educational programmes. Although they transit in similar disciplines, they offer complementary approaches.
On the one hand, IHS/EUR offers educational programmes from a social sciences perspective and training and capacity building for professionals with a strong focus on the Global South. On the other hand, TU Delft (BK) provides a design, management and engineering expertise combined with a strong research portfolio.
The aim of BlendEd is to create an interdisciplinary space and opportunities to mix students from various disciplines and geographies to debate and address urban development issues on a global scale.
